Day 40 Ho Chi Minh City
Today we went to Cu Chi which was really cool because it was where a lot of fighting occurred in the Vietnam war. We saw the bunkers and tunnels they used during the war. We went down into the tunnels and crawled through them. We also saw a lot of the enemy traps they used and all the guerilla warfare tactics they used. You can also see lots of bomb craters from the American bombs. They had lots of little workshops in the bunkers with people showing how they made the army uniforms, the rubber sandals, the food that they ate, the weapons manufacturing etc. It gave a really good insight into the war. You could also fire an AK47 or other war guns on sight. We then watched a Vietnamese produced film from 1967 which was like anti-American propaganda, was really strange.. They were filming Vietnamese towns and cities looking idyllic and the voice over was saying that the Americans wanted to ruin the lovely life that people had for no reason and yeah I can't remember exactly but I remember thinking oh dear. It was very strange. They use it as teaching material in effect. So that was a really good trip. Then we went to ben ten market (that's how it's said but I don't know how it's spelt), it was like a maze, very small aisles and very busy. It was nice though. We then went to the Hard Rock Cafe for an early dinner before having to catch the overnight train. The train was really quite luxurious, it was like a mini hotel room with a TV. I slept really well except for the Vietnamese woman in our room who started making loud phonecalls at 3am. BYE.x
