Cambodia Update

Day 33 Siem Reap

We woke up at 4.15am for a 4.45am start to see sunrise over Angkor Wat but it got cancelled as there was a big tropical storm and so there would be no visibility. We went back to sleep and would instead leave at 8.30am. We had a really good breakfast with these thick pancakes and maple syrup. We then headed to Angkor national park where there are lots of temples and buildings from ancient civilisation. The area is over 100km2 of UNESCO protected jungle. We first went to Ta Prohm also known as the jungle temple which is the main setting for Tombraider as well as a few other locations in the Angkor park. It was really cool. It had a very weird feel about it, kind of creepy with all the trees growing out of it but at the same time quite like a fairytale thing.  We then went to Angkor wat which was really cool. After that we went for lunch before visiting Angkor Thom which was another temple thing, it had some cool statue things by the entrance. The architecture of all the buildings in the Angkor park is lovely. We then saw the terrace of elephants which was nice. Next we went to see the floating village. To get there we drove through a very low-lying area of Siem Reap and so it was really flooded and we saw all the children playing in the water and people cycling through with water up to their knees. We got on the boat to go through the floating village, it was really cool, very weird to see how they live on the water. We stopped off at one of the houses (it was large as they had a little cafe for visitors) and we saw their crocodile farm. They brought us out some drinks and a local delicacy - snake, as I hadn't tried anything 'adventurous' yet I tried it, needless to say I didn't like it. It tasted a bit like pepperoni but gross. We had a buffet dinner at a really large dining place which had a stage and you eat whilst they perform traditional Cambodian dancing called apsara. BYE.x
